This would explain why there is no oppurtunity for the team to confront Schala in the desolate future, as Lavos has accounted for everything. Looking a little further (and removing Balthasar's influence supposedly), if Lavos determined that that footage was pure and untouchable in that timeline, guaranteeing a confrontation, perhaps it altered its plans somehow during the initial contact with Schala. If the footage of Lavos' emergence is taken from satellite imagery it could be (pardon please) reasonably reasoned that whatever satelite it was that happened to have a window to record, left that window as it continued through orbit, subsequently sealing THAT moment in time as the confrontational point. The the most concrete safeguard against a paradox in this scenario could be assumed to be the limited technology at the time (1990 AD lol).
